Monday, July 5
I notice a pattern; Mondays are when people are released, and changes seem more likely to be made.
Rosita was released home. We sang happy birthday to her in Spanish and English. Then a surprise, Tina was released. In the afternoon, we got a new patient — Ariana, in bed no.95. Ariana appears to suffer from dwarfism. She is 34 years old. Felicity was released, and we immediately got a new patient in bed no.97 — Evan. He is very ill and coughing a great deal. Evan had not been vaccinated, but his wife is a dentist and had been vaccinated. He has two sons, who he shared a photo of on his phone.
I asked for a pillow from one of the male attendants who made up the bed for Evan, the new patient. He seems to take great offense, stomps away while pointing to me and shouting ¨Your oxygen is low! ¨ He strips off his PPE when he gets out the sliding doors, and I see him throw his mask into the hallway. He stalks off in a rage. When the nurses came through next, I asked for a pillow, and they got me one. I told them I needed a pillow for my back because of scoliosis.
I returned the pen to the evil twin nurse after telling her I had just found it in the blanket. The look on her face! I thought it was better to return it than for her to find I had it hidden in my bed. I added a string to my memory knots for the night attendant named Marcos on the third pouch. I wanted to remember him because he was always happy and upbeat even though he worked late cleaning the room; he made all patients laugh. He told me he was learning English, knew Portuguese, and took French. He loved learning about science, literature, history, and everything!
In the afternoon, several new people were allowed into the room to provide physical therapy. A therapist showed me exercises I could use while sitting in bed, so my legs do not get stiff. Bela, an amiable nurse, had asked if I wanted to try a therapy she was promoting. You put a mask over your face, and a machine blows bursts of high air pressure into your lungs. It helps expand the lower lungs and reduce inflammation. I told her I would try it. I begin this therapy twice a day while in Salon Tara. So, the entire day was a busy one.
In addition, this was a hectic day for communications. Maria and Carlos called twice. I spoke through the doorway to Dr. Marquez, who asked how I was doing and told me my oxygen level was improving very well. I spoke briefly with Dr. Rico again; she said I was doing well. I got to talk on a video call with Daniel. I made sure to record my communications on my memory knots.
9:00 p.m.: Tonight was very different. Ariana begins twisting, crying, and yelling ¨Alto! Alto!¨ as the patient monitors no.98 and no.99 start beeping and clicking. She cries that she is a good woman. Pedro and Evan begin making groans and grunts, and Aglia stays asleep. After an hour, nurses come in and tie her arms down with strips of a bed sheet. I watched them tear the strips as I pretended to be asleep. All night, Ariana cried, moaned, twisted around in bed, yelled, and called for her mother.

7/5/21, 7:27 p.m. — Maria: Hi Daniel, I can find out the amounts of electricity and water.
7/5/21, 8:52 p.m. — D: Hi Maria, how are you? I was only able to find the amounts that were paid last month. My estimate for water and electricity is 123,000 for this month. Is there any way that Carlos can find out the exact amount? I have 123,000 cash that I can give Carlos for the invoice.
Daniel’s notes: Lawyer SB: 7/5/21, 10:13 a.m. — D: Good morning SB,
I hope you are well my friend. I want to tell you that the problems reaching a doctor have resumed. My mother is doing fine, as of yesterday. The nurse tells me to call at the appointed time, and upon calling today, they say to call back at 2 p.m. I have not spoken with a Doctor since July 2, even though the doctor tells me to call a certain times. I will call at 2 p.m. today as instructed, but I forsee asking your assistance for the communication with the hospital. Lastly, if your office can send the invoice to my email, I will make the payment for your services. Thank you for your help.
